Composer: Al Summers Title: Park? Instrumentation: 3 Bb clarinets, bass clarinet Duration: 6 minutes Difficulty: Moderate Programme note: The title reflects the ambiguity (& underlying irony) of the piece. The different elements share a common harmonic/melodic note grouping and musical direction: solo sections are generally rhythmically free; ensemble sections sometimes quite loose, at other times rigid, giving an occasional energy boost to an otherwise relaxed structure. The Park could refer to a walk through a public park or to a set of ideas trying to park themselves in neat spaces. The full picture is never quite visible; the 'car-park' of sounds ends in a kind of agreed muddle, harmony & melody falling away into a chromatic compromise. Availability:the composer |
