Composer:
Terry Mann
Title:
Canon and Dance
Instrumentation:
3 Bb clarinets, bass clarinet
Duration:
6 minutes
Difficulty:
Moderate
Programme note:

My music is very concerned with simplicity and directness. The two movements of this short piece each utilise a different, simple device. The first uses a straightforward canon in four voices, and the second has a freely composed tune repeated over three different length looped patterns, the 'phasing' of which means that these three patterns return to their starting point every thirty bars. The pattern simply stops dead after the tune has appeared three times.
