Composer: Angela Polden Title: Forlana Instrumentation: Flexible - four melody lines Duration:Difficulty: Moderate Programme note: The Forlana has returned with a few surprises: sometimes wistful, mischeivous, frustrated, often quirky but always elegant. Forlana: (furlana)(Fr. Forlane) A dance which originated in N.Italy and then became popular in aristocratic France ~1697 to 1750 as an instrumental ait and generally as a lusty but graceful dance of flirtation. In England and France the Forlana also became popular as a country dance. Usually written in 6/8 or 6/4, it is characterised by repeated motifs and rhythmic accents. Availability:from the composer |
