Composer: Alan Taylor Title: Man returning...burdened under something Instrumentation: Percussion ensemble - four players, marimba, hand held percussion, metallic percussion, drums Duration: 3 minutes Difficulty: Would require very good amateur, or professional players Recording (percussion sounds not correct): MIDI Realisation Technical Issues: The marimba part becomes extremely complex towards the end of the piece. Otherwise the piece is very slow moving, with a great deal of silence. I may require a conductor due to the extent of the silence and the rhythmic complexity. Programme note: The title consists of words from the poem Perfect Light taken from the collection of poems, Birthday Letters by Ted Hughes about his relationship and marriage to Sylvia Plath. The poem describes a photogtaph of Plath, happy with her young children, frozen as if her future never arrived. Availability: from Alan Taylor |
