Composer: Paul Burnell Title: The Wierd Sisters Instrumentation: Oboe, Viola, and Cello Duration: 6 minutes Difficulty: Good amateur Technical Issues: Good ensemble needed Programme note: The Weird Sisters is one of four pieces inspired by artworks based on Shakesperian subjects. This one was inspired by a picture by John Henry Fuseli (1741-1825) of the three witches from 'Macbeth'. Paul Burnell came late to composition after a period of studying music. Works performed include an oboe sonatina, an organ work (A Motion and a Spirit), and a vocal work (From Blake's Milton) performed by the London COMA ensemble. The Wierd Sisters was performed by the London Chamber Group in December 1997. Availability: from the composer |
