Composer: Margaret Quail Title: Feeding on the Light Instrumentation: clarinet, violin, cello, tambour Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Moderate Technical Issues: At various points the string players are asked to use some simple extended techniques, and there is a section in free time where the players will need to determine for themselves when to enter and for how long to hold pauses. Programme note: The piece takes its title from a poem by the Italian poet, Eugenio Montale. the poem is entitled "The Sunflower". The poem expresses the Montale's attachment to the landscape of his youth, on the coast near Genoa, with burning light and salt spray on rocks, using the sunflower as a metaphor for attraction to the light. It concludes with the words "feeding on the light". Availability: Composer's phone: +44 (0)20 8852 3810 |
