Composer: Jerry Wigens Title: Conciliation Instrumentation: Fl, vln, cl, vlc Duration: 4 minutes Difficulty: Easy to moderate Technical Issues: The piece has many time signature changes, but the crotchet pulse is maintained throughout and so is easier than it looks. It is built around a series of figures which repeat until they finally resolve. Programme note: The piece was originally written for a workshop given by Ixion, the visiting ensemble at the COMA Summer School 2001. This version doesnąt differ significantly from the original and I have tried, as the title suggests, to convey initial anxiety and antagonism leading to consideration and reflection, and finally resolving in harmony and conciliation. The piece is markedly tonal for the most part although chromatic fourths begin the piece to give a somewhat dark preface. This figure is revisited towards the end but is broken up rhythmically in an attempt to lighten things up as a preparation for the harmonious final passage. Availability: From the composer |
