Composer: Luca Vanneschi Title: Movimenti Instrumentation: Flute, Violin, Clarinet, Cello Duration: 5 minutes Programme note: Extremely linear and essential writing forms the basis of Movimenti. The soul and the impetus of the sonorous gestures are based on the rhythm, fluctuating in a space of blazing energy that sometimes changes into a haunting melody. The music is sharp and turbulent, and wanders restlessly in search of its own synthesis through diatonic and chromatic approaches. The composition starts with a brief introduction where the pizzicato of the cello guides the other instruments to the first movement. Then a pattern in the violin is superimposed on the pizzicato, while some decoration by the flute gives colour to the melodic incipit in the clarinet part. In the second movement the instruments join together softly to form a choral structure. A long melody by the flute spreads out on a drone of the violin, opening the third movement. Then, all the instruments come together, as though they've found their identity: a final moment that draws a clear shape, violently and tumultuously dying down to the quiet sound of the flute.
