Composer: Martin Read Title: Twyford Down Instrumentation: 2 violins, viola and cello Duration: 3 minutes Difficulty: Moderate to harder Technical Issues: In two sections "car noise", performers have four beats to imitate the sound of traffic. These bars are exactly the same duration as the bars on either side. The pulse remains constant. Programme note: Twyford Down was a beautiful area of high ground lying south-east of Winchester, rich in historical features such as an iron-age village, pre-Roman field systems, and ancient trackways known as Dongas. More recently it was a valuable habitat for rare species of butterfly. It is now a road - part of the M3 motorway. Availability: from the composer |
