Composer: Alan Taylor Title: String Quartet No. 3 Instrumentation: vln, vln, vla, vlc Duration: 7 minutes Difficulty: Moderate
Recording: The piece begins with a dissonant figure, with a rhythm which depends on careful co-ordination of the bowing - fully marked up in the parts. Programme note: The quartet grew out of a short rhythmic figure, and the idea of a highly dissonant figure slowly opening out. These led to a musical journey which takes in a wide range of changes of direction, and arrives a conclusion far from the opening.
