Composer: Alan Taylor Title: String Trio Instrumentation: Violin, violin or viola, cello Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Moderate to good amateur Recording: Live in performance - Ensamble Rosario, Argentina, 2004 Technical Issues: Little difficulty in the notes, but skill required in their precise timing. A conductor may be needed. Conventionally notated, but requires expressive playing and great contrasts in dynamics to work effectively. Programme note:The piece begins with an effect described as 'like watching cells dividing'. It builds up to aggressive and shattering climaxes, but then relaxes and wanders back down to fragmentary material, with a sense of emotional exhaustion. Two violins play staccato and intermittent figures, against pizzicato figures on cello, with held notes leading to dissonant climaxes. Performed at the Forum London Composers' Group concert, May 1998 Availability:from Alan Taylor or from his SibeliusMusic home page where you can view, play, and print the score. |
