Composer: Pat Livingstone Title: 'Timezones' Instrumentation: 2 vlc Duration: 12 minutes Difficulty: Professional Programme note: This piece has 4 movements: Moonday; Monk's Gate; Shifting Sands; Time-Keeping. The movements are different approaches to time. 'Moonday' is a long slow movement with sustained notes and chords, often chords evolving by removing one note of the chord at a time. Much use of double stopping. 'Monk's Gate' is an allegro set of variations on 'Monk's Gate' - English Traditional tune collected by Vaughan Williams. The melody is only heard fully in the final 20 bars in the 2nd celli part. 'Shifting Sands' begins with a 15 bar solo, followed by a section using tremolos and shifting patterns, 12 bars of pizz and a final arco coda. 'Time-keeping' is a rhythmic allegro which closes using body sounds of the celli. Availability:the composer |
