Composer: Richard Turner Title: Fugue in C Instrumentation: Vln, Vla, Vlc, or Cl Vln Vlc Duration: 3 minutes Difficulty: Moderate amateur Technical Issues: Simple and lyrical Programme note: Fugue in C was composed for the 1997 COMA Summer School, and was first performed there by members of the Gemini ensemble. The piece pays homage to Shostakovich and, like the the first fugue from Shostakovich's set of 24 for piano, it is restricted purely to notes within C Major tonality. The effect is to weaken the tonic/dominant relationship which, whilst hinted at, can never be firmly stated. Performed by the London Chamber Group, BMIC, Dec 1997, and again at the Bromley Festival, 1999. Availability: London Chamber Group |
