Composer: Liz Herbert Title: Changes Instrumentation: Vln Vla Vlc Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Moderate amateur Technical Issues: Involves higher positions Programme note: The title Changes came from change ringing of bells. Liz Herbert is a school teacher who began the cello 12 years ago. The first movement was written at a COMA summer school workshop run by Diana Burrell. The name of the piece comes from the inter-twining and re-ordering of a series of notes, as in change-ringing. The remaining three "fragments" were added subsequently, and the work received its premiere at the Spitalfields Festival in 1994. Performed by the London Chamber Group, December 1996, at BMIC.
