Composer: Alan Taylor Title: Three Modern Tasters for Strings Instrumentation: Five part string orchestra - violins 1+2, violas, cellos, cellos 2/double bass Duration: 10 minutes, 3 movements Difficulty: Moderate MIDI recordings: Technical Issues: The bass part can be played, or doubled, on cellos. They are suitable for high school string orchestras and amateur adult orchestras alike. They do not talk down to the performers, but treat them as people with musical intelligence, whether or not their technical skills are advanced. Programme note:These three short pieces are intended to introduce string orchestras to some of the aspects of contemporary musical languages, but in a relatively gentle way. They seek to be 'of our own age' in their range of emotion and musical thought. They were written for the String Ensemble of the City Lit. in London, and thanks are due to them for playing through drafts of the pieces. Availability:from Alan Taylor or from his SibeliusMusic home page where you can view, play, and print the score. |
