Composer: Kate Gittins Title: Porcupine Gorge Instrumentation: Clarinet Quartet and voices Duration: 7 minutes Difficulty: Moderate to good amateur Technical Issues: Clarinet players need to use microtonal fingerings (specified in score). Singers chant aboriginal place names, and play hand held percussion. Programme note: There's a signpost that points away from Almers Highway in Queensland, down a narrow track, to "Porcupine Gorge". When you arrive there's a viewing platform and a sign encouraging you to "take photos here".... But once you're staring down into this huge gap in the earth which cuts through the empty red outback, you find yourself drawn to the deep blue water lying still at the bottom. You become absorbed into another world far from the tourist trail. Availability: Composer's phone: +44 (0)20 8962 6334 |
