Programme note: This song cycle is a setting of poems by the contemporary US poet and novelist Fanny Howe. The poems were written in the early 1990s mostly in Ireland. Settings of another two poems are still in progress. They are scored for female voice (soprano or mezzo) and Bb clarinet. The poems are:
