Composer: Alan Taylor Title: Four European Dances Instrumentation: Recorder Trio Duration: 9 minutes Difficulty: Good amateur/professional Technical Issues: Bass, tenor, treble, and descant recorders required. MIDI Recordings: Programme note: Written for the Trio Tagarela, a group of students from the Royal Academy of Music in London, this piece consists of four movements, each in a different quasi-folk style, without resorting to pastiche of actual folk idioms. The recombination of idioms from different places in one piece reflects a delight in cultural diversity. The members of the Trio Tagarela themselves originate from three different European countries. Premiered at the Royal Academy of Music, London, in 1996, and played at the Museum of London in 1996, at Chalk Farm Library, London, in 1996, and at the Early Music Centre in 1997.
