Programme note: Bob Mintzer is one of the world's leading saxophonists/composers. As a player, he has appeared on over 300 recordings. As a leader, he has recorded 11 big band CDs with five Grammy nominations and eight small group jazz CDs. He won a Grammy in 2002 for the Bob Mintzer Big Band recording Homage to Count Basie. For the past 10 years he has been a member of the Grammy-nominated contemporary jazz group, The Yellowjackets. This three-movement work displays his very distinctive writing style. It was commissioned by the Apollo Saxophone Quartet and first performed by them in 1995. Availability:From the publisher |
