Composer: Enid Luff Title: Arctic Landscape Instrumentation: 2 flutes Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Moderate amateur Technical Issues: These are duets for 'equal voices, aiming for simplicity and clarity of line. Both instruments cover the same range and echo the same melodic material. Programme note: Arctic Landscapes is a set of short pieces - called: The Snowfields, Aurora Borealis, The Frozen Sea, and Birds fly in over the Tundra. The pieces invoke the images and moods of the titles, giving a sense of distance and bleak hypnotic beaty. The piece was performed by the London Chamber Group at the Conway Hall, May 1999. Enid Luff took a degree in Modern Languages before returning to music to study at the University of Wales, and subsequently with Elizabeth Lutyens and Franco Donatoni. Some of her work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Availability:E-mail the composer |
