Composer: Mateo Soto Title: Divertiviento Instrumentation: Fl, ob, cl, hn, bsn Duration: Variable, about 8-10 minutes Difficulty: Moderate Technical Issues: The players are required to play long notes or chords, enetering one after another, alternating with staccato notes and barred passages. A conductor is likely to be needed. Programme note: Divertiviento is dedicated to the London Chamber Group, and this evening we are pleased to give it's world premiere. Mateo describes the piece as follows: "It starts from the contrast between point and line, mobile and static, noise and sound, consonance and dissonance, harmony and counterpoint, tonal and atonal, modernity and tradition. It is based on a series of twelve totally symmetrical sounds, but these are not treated in the manner of Viennese serialism. There are no inversions, retrogrades, or transpositions. Each of the sounds of the series serves as a fundamental note for the construction of major chords." Availability:E-mail the composer |
