Composer: Giles Brindley Title: A Tyrolean Suite Instrumentation: fl, ob, cl, hn, bsn Duration: 5 minutes, 4 movements Difficulty: Moderate Technical Issues: Largely written in traditional Tyrolean harmony Programme note: This suite was inspired by memories of the composer's many visits to Austria. The first movement is a Landler in the Zillertal style, with the usual parallel arpeggios for two instruments and simple chordal accompaniment. The second movement is a song, a sad one despite its mainly major tonality. The third movement is a Boarischer. Its first section would cause no surprise in a Tyrolean village. Its second section, though wholly in the key of the opening, it is entirely English in line and harmony. Traditional Austrian folk-harmony returns in the third section. The fourth movement develops the old song 'Innsbruck, ich muss dich lasssen', but expresses the composer's firm intention to return. Availability:from Giles Brindley |
