Composer: Michael Finnissy Title: Two Uncharacteristic Marches with a Trio Instrumentation: fl, ob, cl, hn, bsn, or more flexible quintet if preferred Duration: 3 minutes Difficulty: Moderate Technical Issues: The two marches are in 4/4. Performers are instructed to play one, or the other, first, with the trio between, or the trio first followed by one march. The trio is in free time, with players taking over from one another. Programme note: The piece was commissioned for the Chamber Music Exchange by Thalia Myers, and was performed at three concerts as part of that project during 2000 - at Bath, The Royal College of Music, and in Oxford.
