Composer: Alan Taylor Title: One step forward, one back Instrumentation: Wind quintet - fl, ob, cl, hn, bsn Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Easy to moderate Live recording: Forum Wind Quintet, Royal Academy of Music, 2003 Technical Issues: The piece consists of long swelling chords in the upper instruments, and a strong base line in the lower instruments, which are played independently, but interrupted by the occasional outburst. Most of the music is easy, and the outbursts are an effect, and so minor errors will not matter so long as the spirit is there. Programme note:The piece explores a series of long chords in the upper instruments, which gradually open out, then close back in again - contrasting with a vigourous baseline, and interrupted by the occasional outburst. Availability:from Alan Taylor or from his SibeliusMusic home page where you can view, play, and print the score. |
