Composer: David Breeze Title: ...after Eindrucke Instrumentation: Fl, cl, ob, hn, bsn Duration: 5 minutes Difficulty: Harder Technical Issues: The piece is built from short fragmentary phrases, often with complex rgythms, and may need a conductor to keep the ensemble together. Programme note: Eindrucke (meaning "imprints") is the title of an orchestral piece by Berio written in 1972-73. I wrote this wind quintet after listening many times to a CD of the Berio piece, trying to fathom its fascination and structure. In the Berio, a sinuous melodic line over irregularly spaced staccato chords played pp is coloured by a continuous but almost imperceptible change in instrumental timbre and a constant speed. My piece is more fragmented in texture but aims at a sense of continuous exposition, constantly moving on and never looking back. Availability: From the composer |
