The Development of Species
Piano
5 minutes
Difficulty level: Moderate
The piece begins with simplicity, or with lack of variety. Changes gradually take place, with the initial idea slowly extending in length, being transposed outwards a step at a time with increasing frequency, with the introduction of triplets and semiquavers, themselves increasing in frequency, and finally through changes in the basic melodic pattern, until these burgeoning developments hit the end of the piano keyboard and perforce die out.
