Each of these ‘Episodes’ takes ideas characteristic of brass music, and explores them to the point where the possibilities seemed to me to have been fully examined, and then ends without a definite conclusion.
The Episodes are scored for the conventional line-up of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. Instrumental substitutions are possible – a third trumpet for horn and a second trombone for tuba.
