The London Contemporary Chamber Orchestra

The LCCO's 2010/11 programme

  • September 25th - rehearsal for concert
  • October 16th - concert
  • December 4th - possible recording session
  • February 19th - rehearsal for workshop
  • March 26th - workshop for Call for Scores
  • May 7th - rehearsal for workshop
  • June 25th - workshop for Piece of the Year Competition

About the LCCO - we are a unique orchestra, with the role of playing music by developing composers and giving them feedback.


The LCCO's activities

Each year we:
  • Run workshops for composers
  • Hold a Composition Competition for Student Composers
  • Give a concert of the best pieces we have workshopped in the year.
  • Make recordings

Piece of the Year Competition

This is our annual competition for student composers.

2008 winner: Dominic Irving of Trinity College of Music

2009 winner: Nick Norton

2010 winner: to be announced at our October concert

Otherwise full up but we are always interested to hear from players who would like to be on our waiting list. Opportunities do to join us do come up frequently, particularly for STRING players.

British Composer Awards, 2009 - Making Music Award

John Holland, one of our players, won this award for his piece Green Sky, recorded by the LCCO. The awards are made annually by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

On Radio 3

Our recording of John Holland's Green Sky was broadcast as part of Making Music's "Play to the Nation" project

Instrumentation

The LCCO consists of:

  • one each of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, and trombone
  • the usual four string sections, and a double bass
  • piano, percussion
